Sub-Novice Agility

I. CONDITIONS

  • The general rules for competition apply to all the Sub-novice exercises. Please refer to separate publications for more details.
  • Dogs must compete wearing only a flat collar.
  • For all Novice-level agility, the high jump heights and the broad jump heights will be equal to the height of the dog at the withers.

II. LEVEL I

  • Each dog begins with 50 points; Dogs must achieve a final score of 40 points, with each task completed, in order to receive a title for this event.
  • The dog may compete on a loose lead not to exceed 10 feet in length, or the dog may compete off lead.
  • A lure may be used throughout level one as needed.
  • The dog may heel at the handlers left or right side, however the handler must indicate in the declaration as to which side the dog will heel. Points will be deducted if the dog heels on the alternate side.
  • The tasks include: 6 obstacles (In any order: 2 bar jumps, 2 tire jumps and 2 broad jumps), 12 sits (one at each side of the jump), and 7 heels (one heel up to each obstacle and one heel off course).

  • The dog must heel to the first mark stop and sit. At the judge’s signal, the handler must send the dog over the jump and stop at a distance from the obstacle equal to the distance from the starting point to the obstacle.
  • On the judge’s command, the handler must heel the dog to the next obstacle and repeat the exercise.
  • Upon completion of the last obstacle, the team must heel off course.
