Intermediate Junior Handler

I. General

The Junior Performance Series will consist of three levels, each with three “legs” of competition. The Junior Performance Series will be conducted on a 4’- 6’ lead. The dog will wear a buckle collar. Handlers may compete in the Junior Performance Series if they are at least 8 years old, and may continue to compete until December 31 st of the year they turn 18 years of age.

The jump height for the Junior Performance Series will be the height of the dog to the elbow or the height of the handler at the knee, whichever is lower, with a minimum height being 8”. During the Junior Performance Series events, the handler may both encourage his dog and praise his dog. The equipment listed within these rules is to be used as a guideline.Clubs may substitute other like equipment with the approval of CKC Events Department.

Novice Junior Series will be geared towards ages 8-10 years. All ages are encouraged to complete this level. However, older Junior’s with experience may move up to the level appropriate for their age.

Intermediate Junior Series will be geared towards ages 11-14 years.

Advanced Junior Series will be geared towards ages 15 years and older.

 

II. Intermediate Junior Obedience Level 1

  • The team will report to an area designated by the judge as the start marker. At the start marker the handler will make his declaration. On signal from the judge, the handler will proceed through course and complete the following:
  • Sit with a walk around
  • Heel for a 15 - 20 feet
  • Down with a walk around
  • Heel with a dog & handler crossing path not less than10 feet to the front, but not more than 20 feet
  • Sit with a walk around
  • One minute down/stay from 10 feet away
  • Recall and finish

III. Intermediate Junior Obedience Level 2

  • The team will report to an area designated by the judge as the start marker. At the start marker the handler will make his declaration. On signal from the judge, the handler will proceed through course and complete the following:
  • Sit with a walk around
  • Heel for 20 – 25 feet
  • Down with a walk around
  • Heel for 30 – 40 feet; pass another team (3 – 5 feet away) that is heeling and headed in the opposite direction, with the dogs heeling on the same side (dogs will not meet face to face)
  • Sit with a walk around
  • Heel 20 – 25 feet
  • Sit with a walk around
  • One minute down/stay from 20 feet away
  • Recall and finish

IV. Intermediate Junior Obedience Level 3

  • The team will report to an area designated by the judge as the start marker. At the start marker the handler will make his declaration. On signal from the judge, the handler will proceed through course and complete the following:
  • Sit with a walk around
  • Heel 25 – 30 feet
  • Down with a walk around
  • Heel 30 -40 feet; with another team meeting, stopping and exchanging greetings and a handshake with the other team heeling in the opposite direction
  • Heel 25- 30 feet
  • Sit with a walk around
  • Heel 25 – 30 feet
  • Sit with a walk around
  • Two minute down/stay from 20 feet away
  • Recall and finish

V. Intermediate Junior Agility Level 1

  • The team will report to an area designated by the judge as the start marker. At the start marker the handler will make his declaration. On signal from the judge, the handler will proceed through course and complete the following:
    • This event will consist of six obstacles.
    • Jumps may be opened or closed, single, double, or triple jumps.
    • One obstacle will be a 4’ tunnel, and one obstacle will be a tire jump.
    • Emphasis will be placed on how well the team works together and how much control is demonstrated by the handler.
  • On instruction from the Judge, the team will heel to the first obstacle and sit. When ordered, the team will negotiate the first obstacle and the dog will sit on the other side. After a 15 second wait, the judge will instruct the team to proceed to the next obstacle. This will continue for each obstacle, until the course has been completed twice.

VI. Intermediate Junior Agility Level 2

  • The team will report to an area designated by the judge as the start marker. At the start marker the handler will make his declaration. On signal from the judge, the handler will proceed through course and complete the following:
  • This event will consist of four two-way obstacles. Jumps may be opened or closed, single, double, or triple jumps. One obstacle will be a 4’ tunnel, and one obstacle will be a tire jump. Emphasis will be placed on how well the team works together and how much control is demonstrated by the handler.
  • On instruction from the Judge, the team will heel to the first obstacle and sit. When ordered, the team will negotiate the first obstacle and the dog will sit on the other side. After a 15 second wait, the judge will instruct the team to negotiate the obstacle, returning to the original starting point for that obstacle. On order from the judge, the team will proceed to the next obstacle. This will continue for each obstacle, until the course has been completed twice.

VII. Intermediate Junior Agility Level 3

  • The team will report to an area designated by the judge as the start marker. At the start marker the handler will make his declaration. On signal from the judge, the handler will proceed through course and complete the following:
  • This event will consist of four obstacles. Obstacles will be a combination of one-way and two-way obstacles. Jumps may be opened or closed, single, double, or triple jumps . One obstacle will be a 4’ tunnel, and one obstacle will be a tire jump. Emphasis will be placed on how well the team works together and how much control is demonstrated by the handler.
  • On instruction from the Judge, the team will heel to the first obstacle and sit. When ordered, the team will negotiate the first obstacle and the dog will sit on the other side. After a 15 second wait, the judge will instruct the team to negotiate the obstacle, returning to the original starting point for that obstacle. On order from the judge, the team will proceed to the next obstacle. This will continue for each obstacle, until the course has been completed twice.

VIII. Intermediate Junior Tracking 1

  • The dog will compete on a flat collar or a tracking harness with a 15’- 33’ lead. The handler will follow a track laid by someone other than the handler. The track will be approximately 100 yards long and 10 minutes old and must contain one 90 degree turn. The team must find the person in less than 10 minutes. The dog must greet the tracklayer in a friendly manner.

XI. Intermediate Junior Tracking 2

  • The dog will compete on a flat collar or a tracking harness with a 15’- 33’ lead. The handler will follow a track laid by someone other than the handler. The track will be approximately 150 yards long and 10 minutes old and must contain one 90 degree turn. The team must find the person in less than 10 minutes. The dog must greet the tracklayer in a friendly manner.

X. Intermediate Junior Tracking 3

  • The dog will compete on a flat collar or a tracking harness with a 15’- 33’ lead. The handler will follow a track laid by someone other than the handler. The track will be approximately 200 yards long and 10 minutes old and must contain one 90 degree turn. The team must find the person in less than 10 minutes. The dog must greet the tracklayer in a friendly manner.
