General Rules For Event
Competition
The following rules apply to all CKC
sanctioned and sponsored events. All clubs are required to follow these rules
and any other guidelines, and to assist in their enforcement.
I. Registration
- All dogs must be properly registered with CKC
- All owners must be in good standing with CKC
II. Age
- Dogs must be at least six months of age on the day of
the event to compete in all events except CCCP and weight pulling.
- The minimum age for the CCCP is four months on the day of
the event.
- The minimum age for all weight pulling events shall be
nine months on the day of the event.
III. Collars
- In performance events where collars are allowed, the
only type collar will be a flat or buckle collar, made of nylon or leather.
- In all advanced events, there will be no collars
allowed.
- In all tracking events, a harness may be worn.
- In conformation events, a slip collar appropriate for
the breed may be worn.
IV. Leads
- Dogs at events that are not entered or not competing
must be crated when not on a lead and in the direct control of the owner.
- At no time shall a dog be tied or staked out at any CKC
event. Tying is defined as a dog being on a line, chain or lead that is not in
the direct control of the owner.
- While moving a dog from one place to another at all CKC
events, all dog’s must be on a fixed length lead, and in the control and under
the supervision of an adult. The distance from the dog to the handler’s hand
shall not exceed six feet. The use of Flexi-type leads is prohibited within the
competition field and surrounding areas.
V. Aggressive Dogs
- Dog’s that, in the opinion of any CKC licensed Judge or
Field Representative, appear to be out of control or aggressive shall be excused
for the event grounds with out question.
- Dog’s that are not entered in an event shall not be in
the competition area.
- Any dog that, in the opinion of the judge or any CKC
Representative, is causing a disturbance or is interfering with other dogs that
are competing, regardless whether the dog is entered in the event or not, may be
asked to move or to be crated.
- Failure to comply with these requests may result in
removal from the event grounds.
VI. Health
- In the opinion of the Judge, the dog must appear to be
in good health and able to perform the task without injury to itself.
- No dog that, in the Judge’s opinion, is lame shall be
allowed to compete in a CKC event.
- Dog may have no open sores, cuts or wounds that still
contain stitches or other devices or chemicals used to close wounds that were
once open.
- Dogs that are pregnant or that have been bred shall not
compete in any CKC performance event.
- Bitches that are in proestrus or estrus, or that, in the
opinion of the Judge, appears to be in heat or appears to be attracting more
than normal attention from males, will not be allowed to compete in any CKC
Performance event.
- Bitches that are pregnant shall not entered a Weight
pulling or hunting event. Any bitch that is pregnant or nursing and her
condition, in the opinion of the judge, interferes with her ability to compete
shall not compete in any CKC event.
VII. Conduct
There shall be no use of profanity, or inflammatory statements or
suggestions, nor shall their be actions that, in the opinion of CKC personnel,
are provoking or inflammatory at any CKC sanctioned or sponsored event. Anyone
using such language may, at the discretion of the Senior CKC Field
Representative, be ejected from competition and possibly from the event grounds
without refund of entry fees already paid.
- Alcoholic beverages, firearms and or forms of weapons
and any illegal substance is strictly prohibited at all CKC sanctioned or
sponsored events.
- Persons are required to clean up after their dogs.
- Persons are responsible for the conduct of all dogs in
their custody at all CKC events.
- Any dog at a CKC sanctioned event shall not be given any
substance other than clear water. When provided by the host club, water
containing Dyne may be used.
- The use of any chemical that enhances the performance
capabilities of a dog, whether prescribed by a veterinarian or not, is strictly
prohibited.
- The sale of dogs at CKC sanctioned events is prohibited.
- The breeding or insemination of dogs at CKC sanctioned
events is prohibited.
- The raffling, auctioning or awarding as a prize, a dog
or puppy at a sanctioned CKC event is prohibited.
- Any person that strikes, kicks, pokes, shakes or in any
other way corrects a dog in an abusive manner, while at or during any CKC
sponsored or sanctioned event, shall be excused from the grounds.
- CKC sanctioned events are meant to be a place where
families can come out and enjoy their dogs and compete in a friendly, although
competitive environment. For this reason, aside from the obvious fact that it is
common courtesy, good sportsmanship and fair play is expected and required of
all persons entered in, supporting, or simply a spectator at a CKC event. Any
person that, in the opinion of the Senior CKC Field Representative, exhibits
poor sportsmanship or attempts to gain an edge by illegal means, will be ejected
from the event competition, and may be removed from the event grounds.
VIII. Complaints and Appeals
- In the event of inclement weather, CKC sanctioned events
will continue as scheduled provided that, in the opinion of the Field
Representative, the conditions are not dangerous. If the Field Representatives
deems the conditions unsafe, the event may be halted until the conditions
improve or the remainder of the event may be cancelled with the results standing
for all dogs that have completed their tasks. Refunds will not be given for
events that were not completed or that were unable to begin.
- All decisions, points, and other subjective issues of a
CKC Judge are final. Competitors, spectators and any other person at a
sanctioned CKC event that openly and continuously disputes a call or decision of
a CKC sanctioned Judge will be asked to leave the event grounds, to include
parking areas, setup areas and any other areas associated with the event.
- Competitors disagreeing with a Judges interpretation of
CKC rules may submit a written statement to the CKC Events Director. The
statement should include facts substantial enough for a review to be made.
Witnesses are always helpful.
- If a competitor feels the Judge’s call was not
consistent with other Judge’s at similar events, a report submitted to the CKC
Events Director for review.
- The Judge for a particular event may designate areas
from which dog’s, not directly involved in the competition are prohibited.
Persons making entry in CKC sanctioned, sponsored or fun event, is a
spectator at one of these events, or supports others that are entered in one of
these events, agrees to abide by these rules. Decisions of CKC officials in
regards to these rules will be enforced. If parties involved feel an unfair or
harsh decision was rendered, the decision may be appealed. The appeal must be
made within 10 days of the event, in writing to the Events Director.
